As Malaysia’s Independence Day (Merdeka) on August 31st, 2022 approaches, it is time again for the Merdeka spirit to resonate among the Malaysian community and friends of Malaysia in Hong Kong. Last year, despite pandemic restrictions, the Malaysian community displayed their resilience during the resoundingly successful Merdeka Ball. This year, despite the prevailing social distancing restrictions, inspired by the success of last year’s event, the Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (Hong Kong & Macau) (MAYCHAM) and the Malaysian Association of Hong Kong (MAHK) once again, wishes to invite you to be part of our annual marquee event – the Merdeka Nite 2022.
With the patronage of the Consul-General of Malaysia, MAYCHAM and MAHK will jointly organise the Merdeka Nite 2022 at the Ballroom of the JW Marriott Hotel, Hong Kong on Friday, August 26th, 2022, to commemorate the independence of our nation (Merdeka – August 31st) and the formation of our country “Malaysia” (Malaysia Day – September 16th).
The theme for this year’s event is “Saya Anak Malaysia” to signify that despite the various challenges brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly the restrictions that prevented many of us from travelling home to Malaysia, the diverse Malaysian community from all walks of life here have continued to grow ever closer together, living in harmony and mutual support for one another. In the face of the many pandemic adversities, the Malaysian values and spirit have proudly shone through.
Towards ensuring the Merdeka Nite 2022’s success, we would like to have you join us in celebrating this memorable occasion through any of the following:
